APS Audio is run by producer, audio engineer and musician Ashley Peter Smith, based in Folkestone, Kent, UK.

"Since my early teens, I have been dedicated to music, first teaching myself bass guitar before moving onto drums. A keen Sixth-form Music Tech student, I remember arranging to take home the school's portable Fostex multitrack recorder during the holidays so I could practice recording my own tracks.

Those early recording experiments caused me to fall in love with playing ‘producer’ as much as performing – recording became an exciting creative process for turning your ideas into reality, and at the same time, learning valuable lessons in arrangement.

Since then, my love for music has blossomed into a varied and busy career, and I have been lucky to work in music creation, live performance, recording and production environments for nearly 20 years, as well as teaching drums for nearly as long.

Having experience as a professional musician, producer, educator and studio practitioner - along with degrees in Commercial Music (BA) and Popular Music (MA) - has put me in an advantageous position for working on music projects of different shapes and sizes, by bringing a multi-faceted and instinctive approach to creative music production.

As a performer, I have played (and continue to play) with bands such as Ben Russell & The Charmers, Dulcie May Quintet, Vertigo, Luca Afrobeat, Deutsche Blasmusik, Spyplane and many more. I have performed at some of the country's top live venues and festivals and have been lucky enough to support internationally renowned artists such as Katchafire, Groundation, Lee Scratch Perry and Huey Morgan.

As a producer and mix engineer, I have produced tracks that have gone on to be successful in their own right, clocking up nearly 1,000,000 streams. I also run and release music through my own Mother Night label imprint, including creating bespoke promotional material and digital marketing campaigns.

With each project, I aim to inject my own passion, creativity and diligence into the process to achieve something special. Each and every project is undertaken with the utmost care and attention to detail, working closely with the artist to realise their vision.

The goal is always to serve the music, serve the artist and produce something you are proud to release. I stand by forging your own path in music, and that everyone has a story to tell - it would be a pleasure to help you tell yours."

Ashley uses M-Audio, AKG, Slate and Novation hardware and Steinberg, Izotope, Softube, Waves, TDR, TAL and Slate plug-ins, working predominantly ITB using Cubase and Wavelab DAWs.
